EVENT: San Francisco Marathon 2014
EVENT DATE: Jul 27, 2014
As many of you can attest, I am crazy. To prove this point I will be running my first marathon in San Francisco, Sunday, July 27th, not once but twice. That’s right, a Double Marathon, two marathons back-to-back, a total of 52.4 miles. As if that doesn’t sound crazy enough, it gets better; The San Francisco Marathon is considered to be one of the most challenging marathons in the world. This time, however, there is a method to my madness. I will be running with a purpose. I have joined the Lung Cancer Foundation (LCF) team.
Why the Lung Cancer Foundation? Lung cancer is the #1 cancer killer. It kills more people than breast, prostate, colon, liver, melanoma and kidney cancers combined. However, for every $26 dollars spent on breast cancer in America, $1 is spent on lung cancer. The underfunding of lung cancer research has kept its survival rate at 15.5%, as low as it was in 1971.
These statistics are disheartening and make a compelling case that the funding of lung cancer research needs to be greatly increased. It is for these reasons that I am asking for your support. Now more than ever, lung cancer patients and families need assistance.
You have supported me in one way or another through my many past accomplishments. Please, join me in supporting this great foundation. Every dollar large or small adds up and makes a difference, in the lives of those affected by Lung Cancer.
I am lending my lung power and joining the team: A Breath Away! By joining, I have made a commitment to help the Bonnie J. Addario Lung Cancer Foundation (ALCF), raise funds for research and patient services. Help us reach our immediate goal of increasing survival rates and providing hope to those suffering from lung cancer.
“Empowered patients live longer. Our message is simple… we want to live.”
