BENEFITING: ACE BAILEY CHILDRENS FOUNDATION
ORGANIZER: ACE BAILEY CHILDRENS FOUNDATION
EVENT: 2013 Boston Marathon
EVENT DATE: Apr 15, 2014
My name is Beth Ann Bligh and I will be running the 2013 Boston Marathon to benefit the Ace Bailey Children's Foundation. Founded after former Boston Bruin Ace Bailey died in the terrorist attacks of 9/11, the Ace Bailey Children's Foundation raises money to benefit the NICU at Floating Hospital for Children in Boston.
Last June, I was admitted to Tufts Medical Center when I was 25 weeks pregnant with severe preeclampsia. After spending 7 weeks in the hospital with my 3 year old daughter Caroline and husband Kevin at home, I ended up delivering my daughter Cailin at 33 weeks. Cailin weighed 2 pounds 13 ounces and required the services and amazing care of the NICU at Floating Hospital. My thought is after all that was given to me and my family, the least I can do is help raise funds by running the Boston Marathon.
The Ace Bailey Children’s Foundation was established in memory of Garnet “Ace” Bailey who was killed in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. Ace’s family has created the Foundation to honor his memory and to perpetuate his deep caring for the happiness of children through making the hospital experience less stressful for children and their families.
The work of the Ace Bailey Children’s Foundation focuses on the well-being of hospitalized children through the building and renovation of hospital environments that improve the family-centered and softer side of hospital care. We strive to reduce the stress of pediatric hospitalization by creating environments that are less clinical in appearance and more comforting and soothing for pediatric patients. The Floating Hospital for Children at Tufts Medical Center in Boston is the recipient of our funding.
