BENEFITING: MYTEAM TRIUMPH
This page is being created to raise money to support the creation of the Ainsley’s Angels of Maryland chapter of myTeam Triumph.
Aiden and Jakob are 10 year old boys who have been friends and classmates since second grade. Jakob has Cerebral Palsy (CP) and is confined to a wheelchair. In an effort to help explain CP to Aiden, he and his dad read Devoted, the story of Rick and Dick Hoyt and the races they run together. About a year later, inspired by Jakob's recent accomplishments (learning to stand, wave, and say 'hi!') Aiden told his parents "I kinda still want to be in the Navy, but I really want a job helping kids like Jakob learn to walk."
His Dad then suggested they run 5K together and he could push Jakob while Aiden ran next to his friend. Aiden immediately agreed, but insisted he push Jake, "we'd be just like Team Hoyt!"
Jake and his mom were touched by the idea and immediately agreed! But then the challenges of modifying Jake’s 200lb electric chair into something a 9 year old could push for 3.1 miles loomed over the families. How would we make this work? Through our friends in the military we had heard about Ainsley’s
Angels, a non-profit organization who's mission is INCLUSION. They help folks like Jakob get the equipment necessary to compete in athletic events. Jake's Mom was so inspired by the boys, she has decided to start a Maryland Chapter to help other disabled children, teens, adults and veterens in the region experience endurance events.
This page is specifically to raise enough money to get Jakob a chair so that he can not only complete these races with Aiden, but continue to enjoy the freedom and exhiliration of running in races for as long he wants! Additionally, any money raised over our goal will go directly towards the creation of myTeam Triumph: Ainsley's Angels of Maryland!
Ainsley's Angels currently has three certified 501(c)3 public charities (one in Southwest Louisiana, one in Eastern North Carolina and one in Austin, Texas). We are seeking to establish additional charities in partnership with myTEAM Triumph (mTT). mTT is a national athletic ride-along program created for children, teens, adults and veterans who would normally not be able to experience endurance events such as triathlons or road races. Visit our website for more information and to watch videos and see photos of what we aim to bring to Maryland!
Since we currently do not have any membership fees for our Captains (those we push) or our Angels (those who push), our mission is dependent on your support. Among the things donations will be used for include: purchasing an enclosed equipment trailer; maintaining/purchasing jogger chairs, bike trailers, and boat rafts; purchasing team uniforms; ensuring all Captains never pay for a single event, and continuing to provide for the best events possible for our Captains and their families! We also aim to support local special needs schools, programs, and organizations, while also offering an annual out-of-area trip/race for our special rider athletes.
Thank you for your support and generosity!!
