THE STORY:

Welcome to Captain Maisie and the Ajinga Angels Fundraising page in support of mTT: Ainsley’s Angels of Eastern Carolina.

From the team Captain, Maisie Eastman:

I am 14 years old and in the 8th grade at Harmony Middle School. I have two younger brothers who are in the 7th grade and 4th grade. I love to play the piano, sing, listen to music and perform on stage. I participate in the Very Special Arts and last year I was in the play Charlotte's Web. I go to church and I will be confirmed this month. I am so happy to be able to help other kids.

What my teachers say: Maisie is always smiling. She has cerebral palsy, but it doesn't slow her down in her classes at all. She is cheerful and hard working. She has a great sense of humor and she is an inspiration to other athletes with disabilities. Maisie has so much to offer and she doesn't waste a bit of it.

A message from Angel Bridget Ajinga:

After meeting each other at The Basic School, we were already in love with the Marine Corps, and soon fell in love with each other. A few years later we got married and have been loving life as a dual active duty couple ever since. We constantly push each other to be better Marines, and a big part of being a Marine is to maintain a high level of physical fitness so that we are always ready to be the nation's first to fight. After meeting Major Rossiter when I was a student at Air Intel school, I was introduced to Ainsley at a class shrimp boil. I had heard about the idea of running with kids in races but did not give it much thought at the time. As we read that Ainsley's Angels was starting a chapter in Eastern North Carolina, it suddenly hit us how awesome it would be to put our good health and love for running to good use on someone besides ourselves! It only took one race to get us hooked. The look on the kids’ faces makes every ache or sore muscle suddenly feel a little better. We are excited for the challenge that comes with training for a Marathon, and can't wait to embark on this adventure with such an amazing group of people. The more money we raise, the more equipment we can purchase, and the more Captains we can give wings to! Jonathon and I live by the motto "LIFE IS GOOD," and it could not be truer! Please consider helping us reach our goal in whatever way you can."

Thank you!

The CAUSE:

We are an athletic ride-along program created for children, teens, adults and veterans who would normally not be able to experience endurance events such as triathlons or road races. Visit our website for more information!

Since we currently do not have any membership fees for our Captains (those we push) or our Angels (those who push), our mission is dependent on your support. Among the things donations will be used for include: purchasing an enclosed equipment trailer; maintaining/purchasing jogger chairs, bike trailers, and boat rafts; purchasing team uniforms; ensuring all Captains never pay for a single event, and continuing to provide for the best events possible for our Captains and their families! We also aim to support local special needs schools, programs, and organizations, while also offering an annual out-of-area trip/race for our special rider athletes.

You might be wondering, who is Ainsley?

Well, she does not talk or walk; she does not play for fun; but she smiles, while out for a run. An inspiration to thousands, she is an amazing little girl with a smile that will light up any room. Shortly after being diagnosed with an extremely rare progressive genetic nerve disorder called Infantile Neuroaxonal Dystrophy (INAD), Ainsley completed the Surfer's Healing Virginia Beach 5K road race. Her first of many running-aided, wind-induced smiles took her family's collective breath away, as she received her finisher's medal and became an official Team Hoyt Virginia Beach (THVB) ATHLETE! Inspired by Dick and Rick Hoyt, and the only running team authorized by the Hoyt's to use their name, THVB provided Ainsley's family with a therapeutic means to fight the devastation associated with learning and trying to live with the fact she has a terminal illness. The positive energy surrounding the start line, the children smiling from ear to ear, the togetherness of every member preparing to "roll with the wind", the fearlessness of the athletes, the normalcy of the family, and the love everyone shares is a therapy like no other. In an effort to spread this amazing experience to as many people as possible, Ainsley inspired the creation of three 501c3 public charities (TX, NC, LA) and the Ainsley's Angels of America Foundation. Aiming to see other families experience what the Hoyt's have experienced nearly 1100 times and what the Rossiter’s have experienced over 40 times (so far), they established these organizations to ensure others can "roll with the wind" and live up to the philosophy of, "Yes You Can."

You can also spread the word of Ainsley's Angels' efforts.
