Hello my name is Michelle Liciaga, I’m 32 years old and I will be running the ING New York City Marathon 26.2 miles in loving memory of my mother Esther Liciaga. I joined the American Heart Association (AHA) team to help seek financial support in fighting the nation’s leading cause of death.
My mother was extremely kind, gentle, dedicated and loving to her family and friends. Losing my mother so suddenly was devastating to me and my family as I didn’t have a chance to say my last goodbye; I love you, and thank her for all she has given and shown me throughout my life. Through my loss I have gained inner strength and in this journey will become my mother’s unspoken voice. I am passionate in doing everything I can to bring awareness about cardiovascular diseases and stroke and help raise money for treatment. It’s my mission to honor my mother’s loving memory by working with the AHA and giving someone else a second chance at life, one that my mother didn’t have. The next few months are going to be tough, but with my amazing family and friends supporting me, I will achieve my goal and help save a life.
Running the ING NYC Marathon will be challenging for me. I am a chronic asthmatic and had knee surgery in February 2010. My past injury and illness will not stop me from achieving my goal. I am committed to this race by training 5-days a week while working a full-time job and being a single parent. My goal has not been easy, but it’s achievable. I have been successful thus far in my journey training for the marathon. On May 1, 2011, I ran the New Jersey Long Branch half marathon and completed 13.1 miles in 2 hours and 42 minutes, running 12.2 minutes per mile. Successfully completing my first half marathon reassured me that I can do anything and nothing will stop me.
Please make a donation to help support me in my efforts of reaching my fundraising goal and crossing the finish line come rain or shine on November 6, 2011.
Thank you in advance for all your kind contributions!
