I am a 37 year old Nurse Practitioner who was diagnosed at 35 with early onset Parkinson's disease. I had the placement of a Deep Brain Stimulator at St. Louis University by Neurologist Dr. Chand and Neurosurgeon Dr. Bucholz. I had my lead placed for my left sided tremor January 20th, my generator placed and lead attached on Jan 29th. I have always been active until Parkinson's made it to where I couldn't work last summer due muscle jerking, tremors, and my poor gait. It is my goal with my new DBS to not walk but run this 5 K. I want others to see what's available to them now and to support a permanent cure in the very near future. I have a wonderful husband of 18 years, a intellegent and talented 12 year old daughter....Oh, and my 17 year old son is graduating first in his high school class in May....If I'm shaking then I want it to be out of pride!! Giving Parkinson's the slip...thanks for your help.
