BENEFITING: AMERICA SCORES
ORGANIZER: AMERICA SCORES
EVENT: 2013 Boston Marathon
EVENT DATE: Apr 15, 2013
Hello Friends and Family!
I am excited to let you all know that I am training for the Boston Marathon to raise money for America SCORES Boston, a non-profit organization that combines soccer, poetry, and service-learning programming for more than 1,000 Boston kids each year. So as I train to run this historic race, I will also be providing at-risk students with the opportunity to lead healthier lives, improve their writing skills, and give back to their own communities.
I heard about SCORES from a close friend whose husband is a board member. During my own brief experience teaching in Washington DC, where SCORES was launched in 1994, I saw the difference that high-quality after-school programs could make in the lives of at-risk youth. Now I see the benefits of team sports for my own son, hear him learning to read, recite and sing poems, and want every child to have the same opportunities.
My goal is to raise $5,000, which is an amount that allows ten Boston students to enjoy ten weeks of soccer practices and games, creative writing workshops, and the chance to celebrate their season with an interscholastic end-of-season soccer tournament.
Your individual donation will:
$25: Purchase notebooks and pencils for an entire team of SCORES students
$50: Give a SCORES poet-athlete their own shorts, jersey, and shinguard
$100: Supply equipment for a SCORES team's service project
$250: Provide transportation for one team to get to their weekly soccer game
$500: Pay for one SCORES participant's season of soccer and writing
And if you can't donate, please think of me on race day!
Thank you for your support!
