When Andi Rachel Knepper arrived 3 months ahead of her due date, she weighed just over 2 pounds. She was rushed to the NICU facility at Mount Sinai Hospital where the staff immediately went to work to support her fragile body functions. I gave birth to Andi, but the NICU team at Mount Sinai brought her to life.
For nine weeks, Andi's survival was completely dependent on the vigilance of her NICU team. The hardest part for me was leaving Andi's incubator every night not knowing if her heart would tire out and need an extra push or if she would stop breathing in the middle of the night. I will be forever grateful to TEAM ANDI for the loving, pampered care Andi received during those difficult weeks. They truly sustained her delicate hold on life and enabled me to finally bring my beautiful little girl home.
The NICU at Mount Sinai Hospital is recognized for its high success rate in saving newborns at risk. The hospital is currently reconstructing the NICU facility, and TEAM ANDI hopes to contribute to that effort by donating funds to name a patient room in which parents of the most needy babies can stay overnight with their newborns.
Our Andi is one of the many miracles of the Mount Sinai NICU, and I will forever be grateful to the nurses and doctors of TEAM ANDI. Please help us to support this worthwhile cause so that future NICU parents can stay with their babies from birth.
