BENEFITING: Daraja Education Fund
EVENT DATE: May 17, 2015
I met Bilha 4 years ago in a small school on the shores of Lake Victoria... I remember a few things about that day: it was REALLY hot and dusty, there were at least 15 other potential students and their guardians present, and Bilha really, really wanted to go to high school.
Fast forward to present day: Bilha is 1/3rd of the way through her senior year of high school where she has consistently finished at or near the top of her class. She gets A's in math and the sciences in a World that tells her that girls aren't that good in those subjects. She loves her school; Daraja Academy.
Bilha and I are teamed up this year in the only Daraja fundraiser that the girls actually get to take part in, the RACE FOR DARAJA 2015. On Sunday the girls of Daraja will run 7.5 miles at the same time Daraja Academy supporters run in the Bay to Breakers.
Please donate what you can: $10, $25, $50… anything you can. Pass the word on to your friends and I promise that every penny will go towards providing Bilha and her classmates an incredible education and making this school even better than it already is!
Incase you were curious, here is a little more about the AMAZING BILHA:
Bilha's Bio -
Bilha comes from Western Kenya where she lives with her mother and father who both care for their daughter a great deal. Because her family struggles economically, Bilha’s chances for education past free primary school were slim. She studied hard in primary school and earned one of the best National Exam scores Daraja has ever seen.
At Daraja, Bilha excels in her studies. Nearly every term Bilha’s academic performance has landed her in the top three students in her class. She is admired by her peers for her diligence during study hall. Her favorite subjects are Physics, Math, and English and she loves reading novels and participating in science club. Bilha is the goalkeeper for Daraja football (soccer) team.
Her favorite aspect about Daraja is that it gives her the foundation she needs to achieve her dreams.
The miracle behind the Bay to Breakers - Daraja Academy fund raiser lies in the fact that the Daraja students get to actively raise money for their school. At the same moment that the race begins in San Francisco all 128 students will begin their run on the school's campus in Kenya. Please help Bilha and I reach our goal.
Asante Sana (thank you very much),
