BENEFITING: This Star Wont Go Out Inc
EVENT DATE: Jul 31, 2016
Hey! We're Team Awesome Palo Alto! We're just a ragtag group of friends, mostly grad students, coming together to be awesome and raise funds to support the non-profit foundation This Star Won't Go Out, which supports families with children who have cancer. The organization was founded by Lori and Wayne Earl in honor of their daughter Esther, who died of thyroid cancer at the age of 16.
For many of us in Team Awesome Palo Alto, this is our first time running a marathon. We started out by supporting each other to be healthier and pushing ourselves further than we ever thought possible.
The San Francisco Marathon is a 26.2 mile run through the beautiful, iconic, and relentlessly hilly San Francisco, California. The marathon is a challenge to ourselves, and running in it will be the satisfying culmination of all our training! But more than the act of running itself, we are friends who are bonded by our shared support of and accountability for each other in our training and in the other aspects of our lives.
Training for a marathon can be tough, especially those early morning runs, but through it all, we're becoming stronger runners, better friends, and more awesome. Hopefully, in the process, we can also make a difference in the lives of families affected by childhood cancer. I hope you will consider supporting us by donating to This Star Won't Go Out.
Thank you, and don't forget to be awesome!
"Just be happy, and if you can't be happy, do things that make you happy. Or do nothing with the people that make you happy."
-- Esther Earl (from her book This Star Won't Go Out: The Life and Words of Esther Grace Earl)
