BENEFITING: Bear Necessities Pediatric Cancer Foundation
ORGANIZER: Bear Necessities Pediatric Cancer Foundation
Hello Friends, Family and Strangers!
On May 4, 2014 I will be running the Colorado Marathon in Fort Collins to benefit Bear Necessities Pediatric Cancer Foundation. As many of you know, last year I had my own battle with cancer and this marathon will take place 13 months after my last chemo treatment. Go me! I wanted to run this race to give my cancer that final "bugger off!" But also I wanted to raise money for a cause that helps some of the smallest cancer victims. Pediatric cancers have some of the harshest treatments and lowest survival rates of all cancers. It is seriously heartbreaking to see or even imagine a small child enduring the terrible effects of brutal drugs meant to make them healthy. Despite this, pediatric cancer research receives very little funding to investigate new and better treatments. (As little as .01 cent for every dollar designated for cancer research is designated to pediatric cancer).
Bear Necessities Pediatric Cancer Foundation is a national organization whose mission is to eliminate pediatric cancer and to provide hope and support to those who are touched by it. Bear Necessities both assists families financially and emotionally, AND provides grants to researchers searching for improved therapies and cures to pediatric cancer.
Please consider donating to my fundraiser. Even the smallest contribution helps! Thanks everyone and I will keep you updated on my training and marathon results. (This year I will be 39 and running in the 30-39 age group. My goal is to not come in last among my old peers!)
