At almost 7 and in First Grade, Belle is living life to the fullest! She had a great Kindergarten last year, swam in her first 25 meter freestyle race for the Strathmore Bel Pre Dolphins this past summer, and has taken up Taekwondo with Jade Dragon Martial Arts. She's also a fantastic model for little brother Jonas, who just wants to keep up with her! Along the way Belle has made friends and helped spread the word that Down syndrome, or any difference for that matter, doesn't have to hold anybody back.
We always give God and Belle credit first for the happy and productive life that she has, and of course our families and great community, but the Down Syndrome Network of Montgomery County has had a lot to do with it along the way as well. From birth, when we learned that Belle had an enhanced chromosome and knew absolutely nothing, to our first advice on physical therapy, to school, doctors, you name it - DSNMC has been a persistent part of our journey. The money raised in this event promotes awareness of Down syndrome in the community through programs like the Techniques for Success seminar that trains educators. The DSNMC also provides invaluable opportunities for families throughout Montgomery County to meet others in the Down syndrome community regularly. This year Belle has become very curious about Down syndrome, and having the chance to connect with other people who have Down syndrome has become important to her.
If you would like to join the walk we'd be delighted to see you - it's a fun day!
