BENEFITING: Best Buddies International, Inc.
ORGANIZER: Best Buddies
EVENT DATE: Nov 02, 2014
My name is Christopher Ho and I cannot get enough of two things: Best Buddies and running. Best Buddies is an organization that promotes social inclusion by pairing volunteers with people with developmental or intellectual disabilities. When I stumbled upon the chance to run the 2014 TCS NYC Marathon for Best Buddies I could not help but jump on opportunity. I have been volunteering for Best Buddies since high school when a friend reached out and asked if I wanted to have lunch with some her favorite people. Ever since, I have been hooked.
When I moved to New York City in the Fall of 2011 for occupational therapy school, I searched NYU's list of clubs for Best Buddies. I joined the club and have been involved in New York's Best Buddies since. My buddy and I frequently grab dinner and dessert two or three times a month in the East Village.
ABOUT BEST BUDDIES Best Buddies® is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to establishing a global volunteer movement that creates opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment and leadership development for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). In many cases, as a result of their involvement with Best Buddies, people with IDD secure rewarding jobs, live on their own, become inspirational leaders, and make lifelong friendships.
BEST BUDDIES NEW YORK is the local affiliate of the international organization and currently has over 50 middle school, high school, and college chapters in New York City, Long Island and the Capital Region. Your donation to Team Best Buddies NYC will support our existing programs and increase our capacity to respond to our growing waitlist for school friendship programs (over 30 schools) and the tremendous interest in starting a jobs program.
TEAM BEST BUDDIES NYC This is our second year as an official Community Charity Partner with the New York Road Runners for the NYC Marathon. Last year Team Best Buddies raised over $25,000 and this year our goal is to raise $35,000. By running with Team Best Buddies you will be making strides for social inclusion!
