Dear family and friends,
I am honored to be part of Team Grateful Nation and BIDMC in running the 2013 Boston Marathon on April 15, 2013. I will be running my 11th Boston Marathon and it will be the most meaningful one yet. I’m running for my dad, raising money and thanking BIDMC for all they continue to do and I am asking everyone to join us in the process.
My family and I are truly grateful for all the doctors, nurses and staff at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. His contagious motto of living life to the fullest and everyday is a great day is a combination of who Dick Maxcy is and a tribute to the healthcare he has received at BIDMC.
My dad conquered together with BIDMC one of his toughest hurtles on June 1, 2012. He had Open Heart Surgery. His team of heart specialists led by Dr. Mark Josephson, Chief of Cardiology who has been my father's heart doctor for the last twenty years. Dr. Kamel Khabbaz is his Cardiac Surgeon who performed his heart surgery. My father was diagnosed with A-Fib when he was 50 yrs old, along with a Heart Murmur that Dr. Josephson continuously monitoring closely and recommended immediate heart surgery, which was performed in June. He had his Aortic Valve replaced along with a single Bi-pass procedure. The team of doctors, nurses and staff played an important role from beginning to end, small to large and all made the difference to the success of this hurtle he conquered.
Three years ago my dad was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer and due to him being faithful with routine doctor appointment with Dr. Philips, our family doctor for over 25 years. His watchful eyes assisted with a good prognosis. Dad had 45 radiation treatments at BIMDC.
My father’s other health issues that he is being treated at BIDMC are Asthma, COPD, Essential Thrombocytosis (his body makes too many platelets), Stomach Hernia and Sinus Issues. He has had many trips to the Emergency Room and he frequently visits the Pacemaker Clinic and the Coumadin Clinic. The other doctors that treat my father are Dr. Drew his Hematologist, Dr. Sandha his Urology doc, Dr. Aronovitz his Radiologist, Dr. Bhatt his Hormone Oncologist, Dr. Falchuk, SR his Gastronologist. His General Surgeon is Dr. Cahalane; his Orthopedic Specialist is Dr. Lars Richardson. His pulmonary doctor is Dr. Roberts and his ENT is Dr. Caradonna. The vascular surgeon is Dr. Schermerhorn and the joint replacement surgeon is Dr. Abdeen.
My dad is not yet done! He will be going back into the hospital next month to have his Carotid Artery cleaned from being 98% blocked and then back in this spring for one knee replacement and back again for the other knee to be done six months later this year. We are keeping everyone busy at BIDMC.
As you can see, we have a lot of people to thank at BIDMC for my dad’s good fortune from over the last twenty years and now. Saying thank you to all that have taken care of my dad is just not enough; I have personally made a commitment to give back.
Please help us thank BIDMC and be a part of our Grateful Nation team by making a donation to my fundraising efforts. No donation is too small and very much appreciated. I have pledged to raise more than $5,000 and I will continue to tell everyone how grateful my family is every day for all that BIDMC has done for us and also for the many other people that have been helped at the hospital.
We thank you for your constant love and support for my dad. We thank you for supporting my efforts in raising money for BIDMC and running the 2013 Boston Marathon.
