We are 6 days away from Marathon Monday! Thank you for your incredible support during the winter months of training and generously donating to BIDMC over the past three years. We are almost to the finish line.
Dick Maxcy Health Update ~ I mentioned in our last update that my Dad was hospitalized end of March with bacteria in his blood and then finding more on his mitral valve that created an infection. He has been home now for a few weeks gaining his strength back while Mom and the visiting nurses have been working together to get him healthy. Over the weekend Dad wasn’t feeling well again, back to the ER yesterday morning and another stay at the hospital for him. There was some type of blockage near his swollen spleen that has caused blood to build up and pain. We are not sure if this is related to the bacteria or not. The doctors are working together to monitor it and get him healthy again. Dad is eager to be well and get back to his granddaughters basketball games!
Dad won’t be at the marathon this year to high-five me but his strength to tackle any health issue thrown at him and his perseverance to move ahead will keep me running 26.2 miles and cross the finish line.
We are almost to our fundraising goal. When reaching our goal this year, collectively we have all raised $16,000 over the past three years for BIDMC. The fundraising could not happen without your incredible generosity to Team Maxcy. We thank you and are humbled year after year from your support.
Thank you for your love, support and very generous donations given to BIDMC. We are grateful and blessed to have you in our lives near and far.
Hello family and friends,
We are 8 days away from Marathon Monday! The continuous support during training and our fundraising efforts from family and friends near and far has been simply amazing. As you know, our theme around me running the marathon this year was my dad's past year of good health. Most recently we were back at BIDMC where Dad was given quality care once again. He was there from 3/24 -31 from what started as a high fever then diagnosis of bacteria in blood and mitral valve. The doctors and nurses as always working together with all my Dad’s doctors.
Dad is back home now resting and regaining his strength. He will probably be watching the marathon on the TV this year. We are grateful and reminded again how fortunate to have BIDMC as part of our team and keeping Dad healthy.
January- March ~
Dearest family and friends,
I am so excited to share with you that I will be running the Boston Marathon again this year. Yes, I know that I mentioned last year was my last Boston Marathon but when I had to make the choice to apply for the team or finally retire from running Boston I thought about one thing. My Dad.
My Dad had a historically healthy year in 2014. It’s the first year in more than five years that no operations, procedures, treatments or rehab took place. There were even no overnight visits to the hospital for pneumonia or a serious asthmatic flare up. My Dad’s knee replacement from 2013 is coming around and in fact, he started a 6 week program at his local YMCA late fall and will start going regularly this month with my Mom. His cardiology conditions continue to be monitored regularly by his doctors and takes medicine every day for all of them. By sharing this brief update about my Dad, you can see why I am running again for BIDMC.
A big part of celebrating Dad’s healthy year is because of his continued quality healthcare provided by BIDMC. The doctors, nurses, administrative staff, pharmacists and everyone else not listed continues to give my Dad the best care needed to keep him smiling. Our family is grateful to be a part of the BIDMC family for the past twenty years.
Another major part of Dad’s good health is the constant love and support from our family and friends near and far. We could not do it without you. On behalf our family and myself, we are humbled by the love, prayers and generosity given to us every day from you all.
In hope for another healthy year for my Dad and supporting his healthy efforts, I am starting marathon training a month early and our fundraising for BIDMC. Part of my training this year will include more walks with my Dad and joining him occasionally at the YMCA and working out together. We have 20 days until April 20th!
Our family has committed to fundraising $5,000 for BIDMC again this year. We are thankful for your generous support year after year. If you would like to make a donation click on the donate button.
If you would like to mail a donation, make checks payable to BIDMC and mail directly to me.
