On April, 16th 2012, I will be running in the prestigious, 116th Boston Marathon for the second year in a row, and again I’m thrilled to be running on behalf of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Massachusetts Bay. BBBSMB is a fantastic organization that promotes the healthy development of children through the nurturing of continuing, one-to-one friendships with caring, responsible adults, supported by trained professional staff. Being a Big Brother myself, I know first hand the impact this agency has on the lives of the children and families they serve. This year, I have a goal of raising $7,000 to help support BBBSMB in their efforts to reach more youth in our communities.
For almost five years, I have had the pleasure of mentoring my Little Brother Daquan, and it’s truly been a life changing experience. It has not always been easy, but it is one of the greatest feelings to spend the day as buddies and sharing a lot of laughs. Our favorite activities include cheering on the Celtics, Red Sox and Patriots, visits to local museums, and attending the Annual BBBSMB Holiday Party at Boston University. All of these experiences enable Daquan and I to spend quality time together and develop a true friendship.
With this e-mail, I am reaching out to you in hopes that you will support me in running the Boston Marathon, and help me reach my goal of raising $7,000 for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Massachusetts Bay. Running this race will not be an easy task, but your support will make it a lot more painless. Your generosity will help BBBSMB bring the transformative power of mentoring into the lives of the most at-risk youth in Greater Boston. Currently there are 1,600 children in Boston waiting for a mentor, but the funds that I raise through the marathon will help chip away at that number and match more deserving children with a Big Brother or Big Sister of their very own.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Massachusetts Bay has provided tremendous support to me in my efforts to be a great mentor and a fun Big Brother to Daquan, and I couldn’t be more proud to run on behalf of the agency. Thank you in advance for your support and I greatly appreciate your generosity. Please know that every little bit makes a BIG impact!

At Big Brothers Big Sisters of Massachusetts Bay we have been changing the lives of children for over 60 years, and we’re just getting started! Our mission has remained the same since 1949: to promote the healthy development of children through the nurturing of continuing, one-to-one friendships with caring, responsible adults supported by trained professional staff. Big Brothers Big Sisters helps children realize their potential and reach for brighter futures. We seek to raise children up – helping them achieve educational success, avoid risky behaviors, and form better relationships -- and break cycles too often associated with family and community poverty. We are 98% donor supported; it is only with your help that we can carry out our mission and, ultimately, change the trajectory of a child’s life. While our volunteer Big Brothers and Big Sisters are the direct agents of change, we would not be able to recruit, assess, and train our Bigs or professionally match and support Big Little relationships without your help. You are truly making a difference!
