BENEFITING: Boston Medical Center
ORGANIZER: Boston Medical Center
EVENT: 2012 Boston Marathon
Mileage Tracker: 100
So here's my story. When I first moved to Boston, I became involved with an organization called Friends of the Children, where I had the opportunity to tutor and mentor at-risk youth that lived in the low-income areas of Boston. While working with these kids, I caught a glimpse of their daily life and the types of challenges they faced growing up in an impoverished community.
I became inspired to continue my work with kids, and this eventually lead me to my current position at Boston Medical Center, as a Research Coordinator in the Pediatrics Department. On a daily basis, I am at eight different community health clinics in low-income areas of Boston, working with mothers and their infants to address their individual needs. I absolutely love working with my research team at BMC, and I hope that our project has a successful impact on primary care in the future!
I am proud to say that I am an employee of BMC, as they stand strongly by their motto of "Exceptional Care, Without Exception". I have worked here for over a year, and my position, as well as many others, truly represents this model of exceptional care.
Well, this is my first marathon I have ever attempted to run. It's a pretty big deal! I am a jogger, yogini, and snowboarder, but don't let that fool you though! I will be working just as hard to train as I will to reach my fund raising goal of $10,000!
I have been literally hitting the pavement (as well as the treadmill and dirt path) the past few weeks, getting my marathon groove on. I am up for the challenge and the sore glutes! Just don't make fun of me as I wooble around Boston after a long training run.
Please consider joining me in my efforts to raise $10,000 these upcoming months.
All the funds I raise will specifically benefit the Nutrition & Fitness for Life program in the Pedatrics Department. This program employs community lead initiatives to help low-income kids who are overweight or at risk of becoming overweight. One component of the program, FANtastic Kids, provides FREE afterschool programs encouraging physical activity, health eating, and mentorship. In the spirit of the marathon, I thought this program would be most appropriate and have the greatest impact on children!

Thank you all for your generosity and thoughtfulness in advance! I hope to see you on race day!
