Thank you for visiting my fundraising page (as if you had a choice...I'm sure by now I've emailed, called, texted, Facebooked, Linkedin, Tweeted, Instagrammed, written and/or smoke signaled you a dozen times, reminding you to donate)!
For the sixth year in a row, I am honored to be running the Boston Marathon for the Cancer Patient Support Services Fund at Boston Medical Center (BMC).
This year, running for the Cancer Patient Support Services Fund is especially important and special to me because I am running it in memory of my friend, Jamie Riehle (he's the one in the picture with me), who passed away last fall. Jamie was diagnosed in 2004 with mouth cancer and started to get treatment at Boston Medical Center. He soon became very involved with the programs at the hospital, volunteering at cancer screenings and then starting the Head and Neck Cancer Support Group, a group that continues to meet to this day. Jamie stayed very involved throughout the years, participating in fundraisers for BMC and even organized his own fundraising event.
Jamie and I met when I worked at BMC, and I instantly was inspired and touched by his courage, strength, positive attitude and desire to help others. Despite what Jamie went through, he never complained about how he was feeling and he still thought to ask others how they are doing.
I know Jamie would be "Riehle" happy to know that the Cancer Patient Support Services Fund is still going strong at BMC and still getting support!
Over the past five years - because of the generous donations from all of you - I've raised more than $50,000 for the Cancer Patient Support Services Fund! This fund includes important services such as cancer support groups, transportation to and from appointments, care packages and interpreter services. BMC serves people who come from some of Boston's poorest neighborhoods who really depend on these services.
I am committed to raising another $10,000 for people who are less fortunate than us, and I can only do with your help!
At this point you are probably saying to yourself, "Wow, this is AMAZING. I want to help. Also, Ashley is so awesome!" Ok, you probably didn't say that last part, but I know you want to help! And now, you are probably asking yourself, "How much can I donate?!? And, how is it that Ashley is so awesome?!?!" Again, you probably didn't ask yourself that last part, but the answer is: You can donate whatever amount you want (actually, I think it's a $5 minimum on this site to donate, so, you can't really donate whatever amount you want...sorry!)!
Running 26.2 miles is not an easy thing to do, but it will be a whole lot easier knowing I have the support from you!
Here are a few suggested giving donation amounts:
$26.20 - A dollar for every mile I run!
$42 - A dollar for every kilometer I run!
$117 - A dollar for the 117th Boston Marathon!
$2,640 - A dollar for every foot I climb on Heartbreak Hill!
Thank you for making a difference!
