Hello! thank YOU for visiting my fundrasing page! It means a lot to me that you would take the time to click on the link and check out Team BCNC and my page.
A little background...
In April 16, 2003, my mother, little brother and I joined my father in Boston. My father was the one who held my hands as we walked into the Youth Center that was still located Tai Tung Village. Half a year later, my father passed away of cancer. But I continue going to YC... a place where I would call my second home.
I've always wanted to give back to Boston Chinatown Neighborhood Center. It provided me a safe and encouraging environment to grow when I needed it the most. The Youth Center (YC) staffs nurtured me intellectually and emotionally when I was hungry for knowledge and wisdom. The leadership programs provided me the opportunities to learn, reflect, and lead. YC staffs challenged me to become more than just a good student; they inspired me to become a young woman who understands the importance of a community and the importance of giving back.
A little future plan...
In April 15, 2013, I am super excited to run in the 117th Boston Marathon as a way to celebrate my 10th year anniversary in Boston. I am going to be running in memory of my beloved father, in honor of BCNC, and in joy of my supporters (like you!)
Will you please be my supporter?
I am committed to raise $10,000 for BCNC. I hestitated for a long time about this amount because $10,000 is a lot of money to fundraise in four months. However, whenever I think about how every dollar will be benefitting all the BCNC children, teenagers, and adults, I have no excuse not to challenge myself in raising more fund. I know that I can not do this alone. I do not want to do this alone. Thankfully, I will not have to do this alone because I believe in generous and like-minded supporters like you! I sincerely invite you to be part of my race in this exciting chapter! I believe in the power of commUNITY. As I am training for the Boston Marathon, I want to take this opportunity to connect different communities, different groups and different people together for a common good, for a collaborative project.
Will you please join me? : )
*breathe in, breathe out- ready? let's go, game on! TEAM BCNC!!!*
Thanks for reading through my brief story and hear my inner voice, I sincerely wish you a very joyful holiday! I also want to welcome you to this team of supporting BCNC! : )
Please keep in touch!
If time permits, please keep reading as I share a little bit more about my story.
I would like to name my story “飲水思源* The Art of Giving Back” : )
As a Sophomore at Boston College, my financial resource is very limited. How can I maximize my contribution? I often wonder. How can I give back to my community when I am so involved at BC? When my beloved mentor Arthur mentioned to me that BCNC sponsor people to run the Boston Marathon. I knew that it was the perfect opportunity for me to give back. I always love running. I can easily recall sweet memories of racing from one end of the village to another end with my childhood friends in China.
"26.2 miles, are you crazy?" My friend questioned me.
My attitude was very firm. I believe that thinking is not enough, desiring is not enough, I need to translate these two into action! So I signed up to run the Boston Marathon. As I check on the date for the Boston Marathon, I realized that it was almost the same date as when I came to the U.S. 10 years ago. I got even more excited to run!
Right now, I am very thankful for this opportunity to run for an organization that I love. I am very thankful to be able to share my BCNC story with my friends and the people around me. I am very thankful for the ability to run, to sweat, and to breathe. Life is so beautiful!
