EVENT: 2013 Boston Marathon
EVENT DATE: Apr 15, 2013
Hello friends and family!
On April 15th I will be running the Boston Marathon as a member of the Brigham and Women’s Hospital marathon team.
There are lots of worthy causes out there to raise money for, and I have chosen one that many have been touched by. Let's be frank - cancer stinks. It doesn't care where you're from, how old you are, or what your lifestyle is. It can strike without warning and can be a debilitating and life ending disease.
To the left you'll see some pictures of my grampa who we lost to Lymphoma in 2006. My husband lost two team members on his college hockey team to cancer as well. It's unfortunate, but most people know someone who has been affected, so let's do something about it!
My goal is to raise at least $5,000 to support the cancer treatment research of Yolonda Colson, MD, PhD, at BWH. Dr. Colson’s research is focused on using nanoparticles to stop tumor cells from spreading and to shrink existing tumors. These nanoparticles travel through the body to deliver chemotherapy to kill hidden tumor cells, and they also remain within the lymph nodes and at the tumor sites much longer than standard chemotherapy, resulting in better tumor control. It has the potential to stop many kinds of cancer from spreading before it is too late and to save thousands of lives that would otherwise be cut short by cancer.
I first want to thank you for making it to this page and if you can, please make a donation (big or small) to help this cause.
Also wish me luck with training!!! :)
