Why are we running?
After have lived an incredible decade in Boston (2001-2011), I am returning to run my first Boston Marathon. I am running in honor of all friends and colleagues I met during my journey to raise awareness of kidney disease and advance the research in kidney transplantation, the main treatment option once kidneys fail. In particular, I am supporting my friend Leonardo Riella research at BWH focuses on developing a novel blood test that would allow us to identify kidney damage earlier, in time to initiate treatment before permanent loss occurs.
Kidney disease affects 15% of the world population and it is frequently undetected until most of the kidney function is gone. Let’s help Brigham and Women’s hospital to continue to make a difference for kidney patients by supporting our marathon efforts.
