THE STORY:

I ran the 2006 NYC Marathon in honor of my husband Chris and ran NYC 2010 in his memory.  Chris was my life partner and best friend. We had our wonderful son Andrew in Feb 2005 and Chris lost his 12 year battle with brain cancer in Oct 2007, at the age of 37.

When Chris's neurosurgeon Dr. Patrick Kelly founded the Brain Tumor Foundation (BTF) in 1998, Chris eagerly joined the board. He committed himself to learning about the disease and finding ways to help himself and others. Dr. Kelly always said, "if we could catch these (brain tumors) when they're small, there'd be much better outcomes."  Hence was born the Road to Early Detection campaign, to raise awareness about brain tumors and the need for preventative brain scans.

I am honored to be captain of Team BTF for the third year in a row!  We have an amazing group of runners dedicated to an extremely worthy, yet relatively unknown, cause. Please read their stories and consider making a donation.

Team BTF is proud to be participating as a Bronze Level charity in the ING New York City Marathon on Sunday, November 4, 2012.  Please help us raise awareness and funds

Team BTF is proud to be participating in the ING New York City Marathon on Sunday, November 4, 2012. Please help us raise awareness and funds.

The Brain Tumor Foundation (BTF) guides and supports patients and families during the turbulent times when their lives are touched by a brain tumor.  The Road to Early Detection campaign, and initiative of BTF, was launched to increase public awareness about early screening for brain tumors and the urgent need for preventative brain scans.

More than half of the people diagnosed with brain tumors could be saved if brain scans were regarded to be as essential as mammograms or routine blood tests.  We have grown accustomed to routinely checking for breast, colon, prostate and other cancers – why not brain tumors?

Every 20 minutes someone in the United States dies of a brain tumor

Possibly half of all brain tumor patients could have their tumors successfully removed if they were detected early, before physical symptoms become apparent.  Early detection and complete removal is the best known method of treating deadly tumor growth.

Funds raised will go directly to the expansion of

The Road to Early Detection campaign.
