BENEFITING: Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease Foundation Inc
EVENT DATE: Jun 03, 2017
Team BUTTER will tackle the Tough Mudder again in Kentucky in memory of Garrry but also in our hope to raise awareness of CJD. Our friend and brother, Garry Buttermann IV, passed away in July 2010 due to a rare, fatal brain disorder called Prion Disease. Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD) is one of many Prion Diseases. There is no treatment; there is no cure. Because the symptoms look like many other illnesses, diagnosis often takes a long time. Persons with Prion Disease and their loved ones endure a debilitating journey to find a diagnosis. A lot of the time diagnosis is only determined weeks or days before death. "Butter" was diagnosed exactly one week before he died.
"Butter", as his friends called him, was an athlete, a lover of life and culture, and a good man who is deeply missed. Team BUTTER is raising money to sponsor a research grant in the hopes to find a cure or treatment for Prion Disease. We met our goal of $10,000 in 2016. We hope to do it again in 2017. It's going to take a team to overcome the obstacles of the Tough Mudder AND reach our financial goal of $10K. You can learn more about CJD at http://www.cjdfoundation.org
