As some of you may know, I am currently participating in a mentorship program through iMentor in New York City. iMentor is a mentoring program that is focused on pairing high school students in low-income communities with working professionals in NYC, and leveraging these relationships to help these students succeed in college and their careers.
I am currently in my third year of a four-year match with my mentee Percy Gonzalez. Percy and his family are originally from Honduras, and currently reside in the Bronx in New York. Percy is a committed student, having been named the valedictorian of his middle school class, and is very focused on working towards a future in business after college. In addition to Percy's academic and career pursuits, he participants in an after-school leadership program for mentoring elementary and middle school youth in the Bronx, plays rugby on the varsity UASCS team, and likes to play video games in his spare time. It’s has been an amazing experience to have the opportunity to be Percy's mentor the past few years, and to see him grow up from a shy freshman, to a confident and aspirational junior, focused on setting high goals for himself, and working to acheive them. I'm excited to see what the future holds for him, and to help him through the college selection process, and I hope that with your support, we'll be able to provide the same opportunity for other mentees in the iMentor program, just like Percy.
As with all fundraising efforts, I would love to have your financial support for the program via this drive, and to help iMentor continue to provide the incredible programming and support it does today to these students.
However, if a financial contribution is not your style, and you would be interested in providing something equally as valuable to the success of iMentor, (your time), I'd be happy to provide more information about the opportunity of becoming a mentor with the program, and how it is designed to ensure the successful future for these underserved youths.
