EVENT: Honda LA Marathon 2012
After standing in the rain for about three hours waiting for my beautiful friend Karen to celebrate her accomplishment of completing the 2011 LA Marathon, I was motivated to take part in this next year's marathon. Seeing her dedication to this program's cause, I made the decision to join her and the team in running to Break the Silence and Stop the Abuse.
I know it is going to be a challenging, as well as rewarding, experience, but it won't be anything close to the trauma that victims endure from sexual assault and abuse. I am running for all those victims who feel they can't speak up, I'm running to make sure that every child, teen and adult has the opportunity to heal.
You can help give victims a voice! Joing me as I cross TWO finish lines, rather than one.

Every 2 minutes someone is sexually assaulted in the U.S. 60% of sexual assaults are never reported to the police. 2/3 of assaults are committed by someone known to the victim.
CATS (Center for Assault Treatment Services at Northridge Hospital) provides 24/7 services to victims of sexual assault and abuse of all ages in the San Fernando and Santa Clarita Valleys. Each year we serve 1,000 victims, 1/4 of them are children age 6 or younger. At CATS, victims are cared for in a nurturing environment with their safety and well being a primary concern.
CATS collects forensic evidence which helps law enforcement and the D.A.'s Office get the abusers off the street, and educates the community about the importance of child abuse reporting.
