Hey, it's Shaneya here!
Thank you for taking the time to visit my fundraising page!
You’re probably thinking what’s up with this girl and her obsession with CATS?!
Well, I do admit to being slightly obsessed with CATS. But, it’s not what you think! You will not find me featured on the next episode of “Animal Hoarders”.
When I speak of CATS, I’m referring to the Center for Assault Treatment Services at Northridge Hospital.
Did you know that every 2 minutes someone is sexually assaulted in the U.S.? Socking, isn’t it? 60% of sexual assaults are never reported to the police; 2/3 of these assaults are committed by someone known to the victim.
This is why the CATS program exists. They are the only 24 hour, 7-day a week program for victims of sexual assault and abuse of all ages in the San Fernando and Santa Clarita Valleys. Each year they serve 1,000 victims, 1/4 of them are children age 6 or younger.
At CATS, victims are cared for in a nurturing environment with their safety and well being a primary concern.
These “Angels of the Valley” collect forensic evidence, which helps law enforcement and the D.A.'s Office get the abusers off the street, and educates the community about the importance of child abuse reporting.
Sexual and physical abuse robs so many children of their childhood, their sense of security and well-being, and their future. When I learned that one out of every 4 girls and one out every 6 boys are sexually abused by the age of 18, I felt compelled to get involved in a deeper, more meaningful way.
In support of our "Angels of the Valley", I joined the CATS 2012 Honda LA Marathon Team to raise awareness. Eeek! My first thought, immediately following my commitment, was surely there's got to be a better way to help! Hahaha...
Mind you, this will be my FIRST marathon, 26.2 miles! The longest distance I’ve ever run was 6 miles during pre-season basketball conditioning at San Diego State University, years & YEARS ago! I realize it’s a big commitment, but it pales in comparison to the commitment made by the men and women of CATS.
Now that you know a little bit more about CATS and their cause, I'm sure you realize how important this organization is to our community.
This is where I get down on my knees and plead for your help!
I need your help reaching my fundraising goal of $750.00. Will you please help me by donating $1, $10, $25, $50 or more...Whatever you can give. It’s cliché to say, but every dollar REALLY COUNTS!
Do it for me. Do it for CATS. Do it for Victims of Sexual Assault & Abuse!
Together, we can BREAK THE SILENCE and STOP THE ABUSE!
