BENEFITING: CHANCES FOR CHILDREN-ARIZONA
EVENT DATE: Nov 06, 2011
We are a local 501-c3 nonprofit. Our mission at Chances for Children is to improve the quality of life by supporting programs that provide access to sports, physical education, and character education for youth. We provide fitness training, nutritional programs and educational services to students at schools throughout Arizona. During the 2010 – 2011 program year we helped over 2000 children in 11 schools learn the importance of living a healthy and active lifestyle, we provided shoes for over 800 children and provided entries to 4 races for over 1000 children. We’re active in our community and changing the lives of children through our fitness programs.
The demographics of the children we serve are typically Hispanic, African American, Native American and Caucasian. Most of these children live in low-income neighborhoods where being active and eating healthy aren’t fostered. It is at school where these kids have the opportunity to gain that knowledge and take it home with them. Even so, schools are cutting back. ‘Chances for Children AZ’ comes into these schools and provides the education and training these children need but wouldn’t get otherwise. We are there once a week, working with these children, exercising with them and teaching them how to make healthy lifestyle choices. We often find these children improve their fitness levels; they have better attitudes and are more likely to attend class every day.
I am writing to you as an attempt to ask for your assistance. As we get ready for our 2011-2012 program years, we’re faced with additional funding challenges. The cost to provide this program to a child is $145. Will you consider sponsoring a child so they can continue to receive the program they’ve grown to love and depend on?
