BENEFITING: Charities Challenge
ORGANIZER: Charities Challenge
I have made the commitment to train for and run The Charities Challenge Maui Marathon as a very personal challenge. It is intended to be a source of inspiration, most importantly to my daughters as well as fellow Moms, to consider how adopting regular exercise and a healthy lifestyle will contribute to being the best version of ourselves - physically, emotionally, mentally & spiritually because exercise affects us inside & out. My efforts are an extension of the amazing work that Charities Challenge does to promote healthy living, improving health risks and more.
Admittedly, I have spent the vast majority of my adult life living in a rather unhealthy condition. Throughout my life, I have experienced obesity, high blood pressure, and pregnancy challenges due to poor health, genetics, lifestyle and mental/emotional challenges including grief & loss, depression, unmanaged stress and addiction.
My mother, grandparents, great-grandparents and others were all haunted by various health issues: Cancer, Type 2 Diabetes, Obesity, heart disease, lung disease, Arthritis, Parkinson’s Disease and more. In many of these cases, regular exercise would have at least alleviated symptoms or slowed the progression of the disease. In all, daily exercise would have greatly improved the quality of each person’s life – despite their abilities or disabilities and the progression of the disease. In some cases, a healthier lifestyle that included exercise may have even prevented the disease altogether! It is my hope, that with my own recent lifestyle changes– the educated diet, the exercise, the way I manage my stress & cope with what life brings, & making time for rest – my children will learn from my example of how they can positively impact their own health, despite their genetic pool or habits that may have developed along the way. We can choose to be healthier.
Moms! We wield incredible power with our children, our families, our friends and even in our community. It all starts with US! I have come to learn and hope to spread the idea that we are only our best selves when we are taking time daily to exercise and take care of ourselves first. So often we are taking care of everyone else, and in some cases depriving our own health in the process. While my own daughters are who I not only hope to inspire, but also draw my inspiration FROM, it is other Moms that I also hope to inspire and set an example for. The importance of caring first for our own minds, bodies & souls - It is only then we can best lead and influence our children, families & communities.
2012 became my year to take control of my own health, of my own life and while it is a work in progress, I have had much success! As that success continues, I am moved to share my story with others and help inspire healthier living. My Maui Marathon is another step of the journey.
This starts with me. But I cannot do this without the support of all of YOU! Please consider helping me as generously as you can, in support of my participation of this marathon to spread my message.
Because there is NO CUREfor all the ills associated with lack of exercise except... RxExercise!
