Kevin Perez-Allen wrote -Christopher Salazar is 11 years old and in 6th grade. He got sick in January, and when his mom took him to the doctor, they said his white blood cell count was low. They rushed him to the ER at Children's hospital and ran more tests over a couple of days and got news that every parent dreads, he has ALL: Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.
He's on his second round of chemo, which is going to last 24 months. He's on a state funded insurance plan called Healthy Families that is up for renewal in May, and his parents don't know if he'll get renewed. His mom had to stop working to care for him 24/7 because he has chemo 4 times a week and is constantly in and out of the hospital. Needless to say, his parents' financial situation is slipping, not to mention the emotional toll this is taking on them. The positive in all of this is that Chris is a super positive kid and has kept his spirits high throughout all of this.
I am sincerely asking all you reading this to donate any amount you can to help this brave family through what is an emotional and very tough time.
