BENEFITING: CENTER FOR INDEPENDENT FUTURES
EVENT DATE: Oct 12, 2014
Every year a group of dedicated athletes make the ultimate commitment to Center for Independent Futures (CIF): to run 26.2 miles in the Bank of America Chicago Marathon and raise at least $1000 for CIF programs and services. Since 2007, Team CIF has raised over $100,000 by running for possibilities. Support Team CIF and help individuals with disabilities and their families realize their hopes and dreams!
Who You are Supporting: Over 1,000 individuals with disabilities and their families in Illinois and across the country to realize their hopes and dreams for their futures.
Why You Should Care:
-There are 5 million individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in the United States, with over 200,000 in Illinois. The numbers continue to grow.
- As many as one third of individuals with disabilities are socially Isolated. CIF’s social, cultural, and educational activities provide opportunities to build friendships and explore interests as part of a community.
- Illinois is 48th in community-based spending for individuals with disabilities. CIF knows that individuals with disabilities are a vibrant part of our community and should be able to reach their greatest potential and become contributing members of our society.
- In Illinois, over 30,000 individuals currently are living with caregivers over the age of 60. CIF helps families intentionally plan for the future and create reliable networks of people who support and advocate for the individual's hopes and dreams to ensure a full life.
