Welcome to my 2013 Online Donor Drive page!
As many of you know, I am a mentor to a New York City high school student through iMentor. iMentor provides students in low-income communities with mentors who are dedicated to helping them succeed in college and beyond.
I’ve had the great opportunity to be matched with Crystal for the past year and a half. Crystal is a senior at Civic Leadership Academy who loves all things beauty, prefers pizza over salad, and hates taking pictures (but I have one of us...on my profile page!). It’s has been amazing getting to know her and I am proud to have this opportunity to let you into my world as a mentor. This year, Crystal and I have been working on her next steps. When I first met Crystal, she had so many dreams but she was never sure if college was the right fit for her. We spent last year exploring all of her preferences for location, class size, degree options, financial aid, and developed a path to success.
This past fall, she eagerly called me to tell me she had decided on going to Beauty School to get her degree in Cosmetology because she wants to own a salon one day. With her desired career in mind, we have focused the past few months on learning everything we can about her field and applying to schools. I am so excited to see where Crystal ends up enrolling and I cannot wait to visit her salon in a few years as her number one customer! I hope you will join me in supporting Crystal and all the mentees iMentor assists in achieving their goals.
Help iMentor by supporting my page today! Every contribution, even $10, will help support more mentor-mentee pairs like Crystal and me.
p.s. I'm not on Facebook until Easter, so after you make a gift, please share this page with your network and encourage them to donate, too. I'd really appreciate it!!!
About iMentor’s Online Donor Drive
The iMentor Online Donor Drive team is a dedicated group of mentors and supporters who join forces to fundraise for iMentor. The proceeds of this annual campaign help fund thousands of mentoring relationships that are empowering students in low-income communities to graduate high school, succeed in college, and achieve their ambitions.
It costs $1,000 a year to support a pair and ensure they have access to quality programming and resources. So whether you contribute $10 or $1,000, your involvement makes you part of a network of individuals who are making a lasting investment in the life of a high school student.
iMentor builds mentoring relationships that empower students in low-income communities to graduate high school, succeed in college, and achieve their ambitions.
Students and mentors work one-on-one through iMentor’s online and in-person curriculum to navigate the college application process and build critical skills linked to college success. In New York City, iMentor partners with public schools to ensure every student in the school receives a mentor.
Since 1999, iMentor has connected 11,000 students in New York City with mentors, and will match more than 2,400 mentor-mentee pairs this year. iMentor also provides its curriculum, technology, and best practices to nonprofits nationwide to help them run effective mentoring programs in the iMentor model.
