BENEFITING: Clearwater Initiative
EVENT DATE: Oct 12, 2014
THE STORY:
Help us cheer on our incredible Team ClearWater runners this year as we run our 5th Army Ten-Miler in Washington, DC! Our team's goal is to raise enough to build sustainable wells in two communities in Northern Uganda this winter.
Each year, many members of Team ClearWater dedicate their run in honor of our founder, U.S. Army Captain Benjamin Sklaver, and help us continue his inspiring vision of providing clean water to people in need. This October will mark the 5-year anniversary of Ben's death while serving in Afghanistan.
ClearWater Initiative was founded in 2007 after Ben returned from a deployment in Northern Uganda. He was helping families return to their village after two decades of conflict led by Joseph Kony and the Lord’s Resistance Army. Ben saw how the lack of clean water deeply impacted communities and hindered them from rebuilding.
Today, ClearWater Initiative runs programs in more than 40 communities and has provided sustainable clean water and community education programs to 12,000 people in hard-to-reach villages in Northern Uganda.
