THE STORY:

Dear Friends and Family,

Please support my participation as part of Team ClearWater's 5th Army Ten-Miler this October in DC! Our team goal is to fund two wells in Northern Uganda that will provide sustainable clean water for 700-800 people in need.

ClearWater Initiative was founded in 2007 by U.S. Army Captain, Benjamin Sklaver. Ben was deployed to Uganda to work with families who had been living in refugee camps during two decades of conflict caused by Joseph Kony and the Lord’s Resistance Army in Northern Uganda. Ben saw how the lack of clean water deeply impacted communities and hindered them from rebuilding.

After Ben was tragically killed in October 2009 while serving in Afghanistan, his family, friends, and ClearWater’s dedicated staff in Uganda and the US continued his vision of providing clean water to people in need. More than 8 million people in Uganda lack access to clean water and basic sanitation services - that’s more than five times the population of Manhattan. In the past 5 years, ClearWater has built wells, protected springs, and provided water-related education for approximately 12,000 people (2,000 families) in more than 40 rural, hard-to-reach villages in Northern Uganda.

Each year, Team ClearWater runs the Army Ten-Miler in honor of Ben and his inspiring vision, and to raise funds for this life-saving initiative. This year's race will be particularly poignant, as October will mark the 5-year anniversary of Ben's death.

Thank you for your help!

Brett

More About ClearWater

ClearWater Initiative was founded in 2007 by U.S. Army Captain, Benjamin Sklaver. While deployed in Uganda, Ben worked with families who had been living in refugee camps during two decades of conflict caused by Joseph Kony and the Lord’s Resistance Army in Northern Uganda.

Since 2007, ClearWater Initiative has provided clean water and community education to about 12,000 people - or 2,000 families - in more than 40, hard-to-reach, rural villages in Northern Uganda.

ClearWater's goal is to empower villages to lead happier, healthier, and more productive lives.

ClearWater works intensely with villages over the course of a project to provide training, build a committee to care for their water point, and finance future repairs.

- Over 5 times the population of Manhattan
- 14 times the population of DC

- Almost two thirds - over 22 million people - don't have access to adequate sanitation in Uganda.
- Over 12,000 children die every year from diarrhea caused by unsafe water and poor sanitation in Uganda.
- Every 21 seconds, a child dies from a water-related illness.
