BENEFITING: Clearwater Initiative
ORGANIZER: Clearwater Initiative
EVENT: NYC Half 2013
EVENT DATE: Mar 17, 2013
My roommate Sean and I have decided that we're going to run our first half marathon this March! In order to keep ourselves motivated, we looked for a cause we genuinely care about and decided on Clear Water Initiative! This organization works to provide potable water to people in developing countries, where access to safe drinking water is often scarce.
Having dedicated a fair amount of my first two years of college to studying international development, I've chosen this organization while keeping in mind all that my professors and mentors have taught me. This organization oversees amazing projects, primarily carried out in Uganda, that focus on simple and effective methods of providing clean water. These types of projects are often extremely effective at increasing quality of life, because they facilitate development without dependency (dependency being one of the most problematic aspects of the development industry). With access to potable water, health levels increase, increasing productivity and the number of kids able to go to school, which plays a role in gender equality... (etc.), all of which fuels economic development!
For all these reasons, I've chosen to run for Team Clear Water and do all that I can to raise $1000. With this money, wells will be dug, rainwater harvesting techniques applied, and access to safe drinking water will increase!
Please give me your support (moral and/or donations welcome)!!!
