This is my second year running the Lincoln full marathon with Project Purple and in honor of my father-in-law, William (Bill) Dodds. In June 2013, Bill was diagnosed with Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer. By the time Bill was diagnosed the cancer was inoperable and had already spread to his liver. He was a strong man who enjoyed working on his house and cars, boating/fishing and spending time with his family. Shortly after starting Chemo he became too sick and weak to walk. The one thing he always talked about while he was sick was that he wanted to go fishing and take his boat out one last time. He was never well enough to get his wish. Sadly, Bill passed away on September 25, 2013 at the age of 57. I run in honor of Bill and to raise awareness not only for a cure but also for an earlier detection process that can increase the survival rate of Pancreatic Cancer.
Pancreatic Cancer is the 4th largest killer of all cancers and the least funded of the top 10 cancer killers today. We need to do more - we have lost one too many friends, family and loved ones to this evil cancer.
