THE STORY:

Hello friends!

Last year I had the incredible opportunity to run the 2012 Boston Marathon as a member of the first Cradles to Crayons Marathon Team.  It was an experience that I will never forget: fantastic training partners, an absolutely amazing support crew along the way, incredible friends and family members who ran those (very hot!) 26.2 miles with me, a cheering section unlike any other, and most importantily, an awesome organization that utilized the funds raised in meaningful ways that positively impacted thousands of children throughout Massachusetts.

Who wouldn't want to do it a second time!?

The training is difficult. The fundraising is a challenge. The time commitment is huge.  And my involvement not only impacts my life, but the lives of my husband and my two young daughters - not to mention, people like my sister, neighbors, and family members who help babysit when I need to go out for a run!

But I can't NOT do this a second time.

Kevin & I are fortunate enough to provide our daughters with all the essentials that they need to feel safe, cared for, and secure both at home and at school. They have backpacks to bring to school, warm coats in the winter, and plenty of clothing for every fickle New England season.  Many, many children in Massachusetts do not have these comforts and that is just not right.

By joining the 2013 C2C Boston Marathon Team for the second year in a row, I am able to continue my commitment to an amazing organization that tirelessly works to ensure that children in MA do not go without.  I'm able to continue to show my daughters that giving back to causes you believe in is vitally important. And I'm able to do these things while continuing to run, a hobby that has developed into a passion of mine over the past few years.

However, none of this is possible without your support.  Last year, with the help of so many family & friends, I raised over $6000 for C2C. The support was completely overwhelming and while I know it's a lot to continue to ask for more, I hope you will consider making a donation on my behalf.  Every contribution makes an impact...no matter how small or large (and I mean that!!)! $1, $10, $25 or more...it ALL helps.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for your support - whether you are able to contribute or not, please think of me on Monday, April 15th...and send good vibes for cooler weather this year :)

~Meredith

To learn more about Cradles to Crayons, please read on below:

Founded in 2002, Cradles to Crayons is an innovative non-profit that provides children from birth through age 12, living in homeless or low-income situations, with the essential items they need to thrive - at home, at school and at play. We supply these items free of charge by engaging and connecting communities that have with communities that need. The Cradles to Crayons model relies on the generous financial, in-kind, and volunteer support from individuals and families to provide fundamental resources to thousands of the most financially- disadvantaged children living across Massachusetts.

A winter coat for a homeless child not only warms the body, but it fosters hope.  A backpack full of supplies at the beginning of the school year for a child served by Cradles to Crayons means they are excited and eager to learn instead of nervous and self-conscious.  Clothing for a week for two children means a mother can make purchasing food for her family a priority, without guilt or regret. By using the power of community connections to fill a niche in the non-profit sector, Cradles to Crayons has impacted the lives of more than 290,000 children living in low-income or homeless situations across Massachusetts.
