THE STORY:

Daniel French wrote -

Thank you for visiting The Crazy Canine Third Grader’s fundraising page for the Animal Rescue League of NH’s Pet Step fundraiser!

The Crazy Canine Third Graders represent one of many happy pet + owner groups to result from the amazing benefits the Animal Rescue League of NH brings to our community. Together with your help, this Team Crazy Canine Fundraiser will help continue the League’s great work, not only with rescuing animals, but also with education, animal welfare, training, and the list goes on. Please help us make this the most successful Pet Step ever.

What exactly are the Crazy Canine Third Graders you say? This “crazy” bunch is a large group of amazing dog owners who have all taken obedience classes through the Animal Rescue League. And, when all their classes were completed, they wanted more!!! So Third Grade was born. As Crazy Canine Teacher, Maureen Prendergast holds a special place within the Third Grades’ hearts. What’s more, she is a shining example of the priceless value the League brings to our community due to her timeless dedication as the League’s Animal Cruelty Investigator. Infused by Maureen’s spirit, the Third Graders organize regularly for dog hikes, picnics, ice cream socials (the dogs love these), and volunteer events. These gatherings are truly wonderful in that we each get to see the continued joy a “Crazy Canine” trained, rescued dog brings to each Third Grader.
As a devoted group of ARL supporters, we ask for your support and generosity to continue the Animal Rescue League of New Hampshire’s mission.

My tribute is to Roxanne "Rocky" Gates of New Iberia, LA who saved my dog from certain death in a LA dog pound and to my dog (and people) trainer Dawn Marier from Loudon NH who trained me to help my dog trust and shed baggage and insurmountable fear. Rocky has been rescuing dogs in LA for over 25 years through her Chihuahua and Pound Puppy (ChiPP) Rescue. She is very focused on getting adoptable dogs out of kill pounds before their time runs out. She has placed dogs from LA to NE, driving her dogs north so that she could personally hand her babies over to their new forever homes after vet trips, spaying and careful vetting of and consideration of the "fit" for the dog and new family. With the new requirements for dogs coming from out of state, Rocky joined up with a couple from Maine to start a new rescue, PuppyLoveme.org. Since the start of this rescue in Aug of 2010 they have placed over 500 dogs. Last fall Cajun and I had the opportunity to reconnect with Rocky in Maine. Here was a dog they could barely touch unless he was in his crate and had no escape route :-) In my Team picture, I have a picture of Rocky holding Cajun last Sept. The smile on her face brought me to tears. She sees too many dogs like Cajun in LA and her words reflect the tirelesss work she does to save these dogs " This is why I get out of bed everyday and do this. These dogs are not throwaways, they just need a little more time than others ". That would be the truth :-) She saved this special little dog's life and kept him safe until I could find him, I only saved him from becoming a victim. I will be forever grateful to both of them because I could not imagine my life without this little dog and the bond that has slowly grown between us at times seemed to be out of reach. Cajun did not arrive with this name and I wanted to name him something that would connect with where he came from so I was thinking of Cajun spices when I named him. Last September I found out that Rocky is an authentic Cajun .... Fate works in funny ways and sometimes you don't even know it is happening .... I am so grateful to ARLNH and all the people who work tirelessly to save these animals and help make their lives joyous again. I can only rescue one dog at a time but I can certainly open my wallet to be sure that these rescues have the resources they need to help the ones in need, which seems to be a never ending stream. 5 years ago
