Protecting civilians from the horrors of war

One in four people – more than 1.5 billion – live in countries affected by conflict or large-scale violence.

War puts innocent men, women and children at extreme risk of human rights atrocities. Often those in power don't act to stop conflict. A case in point is Syria; the crisis of a generation. Over half the population has been forced from their homes. As many as 200,000 may have been killed. Millions have little or no access to aid.

Mobilizing coalitions to prevent and stop conflict

Recognizing that no single organization can solve the world’s worst conflicts alone, Crisis Action has pioneered an unusual model of global collaboration to prevent and stop conflict. Our role is similar to a football coach; we work behind the scenes to identify expert players with complementary talents. Our “dream teams” unite hundreds of international and grassroots human rights, humanitarian and policy groups around specific conflicts.

By enabling civil society to speak as one at moments of crisis, we spur the world’s most powerful decision makers to act to save thousands of lives. Our innovative model of conflict prevention has been recognized by the 2012 MacArthur Award for Creative and Effective Institutions. The Ford Foundation also named Crisis Action as one of 7 NGOs to reshape the global human rights movement. Read what others say about us here.

Why we need you help

We need money for an Emergency Response Fund so we are always poised and ready to act when conflict breaks out. By stopping us from having to pause to raise funds, the Fund will help us act quickly in the heat of a crisis.

How your gift can help

Your donation could help us to save lives and end conflicts. No gift is too small.

$10,000 could pay for an activist to come from a conflict zone to brief the UN
$1,000 could pay for their airfare to the US
$500 could cover their daily translation costs.

Recently we helped secure a UN peacekeeping force to protect civilians in the Central African Republic from horrific ethnic violence. We compelled world leaders to act by amplifying the voices of the country’s most senior faith leaders. We enabled the faith leaders to meet with the entire UN Security Council, Ban Ki Moon and the French President to speak out against the unfolding violence. After convincing the UN to act, the faith leaders were listed as one of TIME magazine’s 100 most influential people and mentioned in President Obama’s UN General Assembly speech.

We can work together to stop conflict and protect civilians from the horrors of war in Syria, Sudan or elsewhere. Please donate now.
