EVENT: 2013 Boston Marathon
EVENT DATE: Apr 15, 2013
This spring, I'll be running my first marathon in support of Crittenton Women's Union (CWU), a Boston-based non-profit whose mission is to help low-income women attain economic independence.
I have pledged to run the Boston Marathon and raise $2,500 for CWU to help more than 1,400 women and children in the Boston area struggling with homelessness, food insecurity, unemployment, and domestic violence. Please give to the CWU mission to help low-income women build better futures for themselves and their families. Any amount is appreciated and every amount makes a real difference!
After twenty-two years of avoiding running whenever possible (and a distinct memory of skipping a lap when I had a timed 2-mile run in high school field hockey), I decided to run a 5k, and then a half marathon, and then another. Each new distance and pace has propelled me forward, and I'm so excited to face this next challenge: a full 26.2 miles.
Running the 2013 Boston Marathon as part of the CWU Team gives me the opportunity to test myself in the marathon distance while also contributing to the future of an innovative Boston non-profit. CWU uniquely combines direct services, independent research, and public advocacy in its mission to help low-income women attain economic independence.
- emergency shelter for homeless families
- transitional housing for domestic violence survivors
- job training
- family support services
In addition to these vital services, CWU commits to working with each person long term to help her acquire the skills necessary to build an economically secure future for herself and her family.
