BENEFITING: Old St Patricks Church
ORGANIZER: Old St Patricks Church
I am very proud to be running the Chicago Marathon on October 13, 2013, as part of Old St. Patrick's Crossroads Runners charity team. Crossroads raises funds for non-profits to assist Chicago's at-risk youth, homeless and unemployed with targeted programs, resources and service initiatives. The need is always great and it is humbling to be able to help.
One organization of special interest during the economic downturn is the Career Transitions Center. www.ctcchicago.org. The CTC provides professional, emotional, and spiritual support to those seeking a job, looking for meaningful work, or otherwise going through a career transition. Their mission is to provide support to underemployed and unemployed persons who otherwise could not afford comprehensive job placement services.
CTC has served over 5,000 job seekers since 1997. One success story can be found with John, "when I was first beginning to look for work, I felt a loss of self-esteem and despair about how I would financially live. The support system Career Transitions Center provides, both emotional and job search, helped me learn how to get a job and gave me the ability to regain a sense of hope and dignity."
