Camp Twin Lakes provides life-changing, therapeutic, recreational, medically-supportive, and fully accessible camp experiences for children facing serious illnesses, disabilities, and other life challenges.
What's the Benefit?
“360 days a year, I can’t walk but at Camp Twin Lakes, I can fly” said a young wheel-chair bound camper as she was gently lowered back into her wheelchair after zipping down the zip line at Camp Twin Lakes in a fully supportive body harness. This camper is just one of 8,500 children and teens served by Camp Twin Lakes annually through our year-round medically-supportive recreational, therapeutic, and educational camp programs for children facing serious illnesses and other physical, emotional and life challenges.
In collaboration with its network of more than 50 non-profit community partners, Camp Twin Lakes (established in 1993), provides life-changing experiences at its state-of-the-art, fully accessible campsites at CTL-Rutledge; at CTL- Will-A-Way in Winder; at CTL-Dream in Warm Springs, Georgia; at day camps; and in children's hospitals across the state. In addition, Camp Twin Lakes provides an 80% subsidy for every one of the 8,500 campers servedeach year which translates to $800 per child for one week of camp.
Our three campsites are fully medically equipped in order to meet the extensive range of needs for our campers. Relatively serious procedures that would otherwise require a hospital visit during their camp stay are handled on site. For example, campers requiring chemotherapy or dialysis can receive treatment in our medical lodge and quickly return to camp programming. Camp Twin Lakes provides an opportunity for campers to have a shared experience with friends facing similar challenges. At Camp Twin Lakes, campers are encouraged to focus on their abilities and enjoy all of the amenities of camp. Programming at CTL is fully adaptable and all children, regardless of mobility, are encouraged to horseback ride, swim, make pottery and take a wild ride down our zip line. The sense of confidence gained from a camp experience is transformative and our campers return home with a new sense of accomplishment and pride.
