THE STORY:

Hello Everyone,

For those of you that don't know I am a Cultural Leadership Class 1 alum! I went through Cultural Leadership's intensive yearlong leadership development program eight years ago. Before going through Cultural Leadership I encountered injustice, racism, anti-Semitism, and bullying. I never spoke up or spoke out against injustice, but after going through Cultural Leadership I found my voice…a voice, that was strong and full of passion for justice for all.

This year, I am running for Cultural Leadership in the GO! STL 5k race. Cultural Leadership calls this the “Race to End Racism!” I am running to help Cultural Leadership empower, educate, and develop the next generation of activists and leaders.  I am running so that my younger siblings, nieces, and nephews, and future generations may grow up in a world where healthy dialogue about race can occur. I am running because I want them to grow up in a world where race isn’t the deciding factor on where they work, live, or attend school.

Please help me reach my goal of raising $1000 for this wonderful organization. Please join me in the fight to end racism!

Teaching teens to be activists, community organizers and "troublemakers of the best kind."

Cultural Leadership exists to create a more just and equitable community by educating high school students in the St. Louis region to recognize and resolve issues of privilege and injustice to become social justice activists.

Our students develop leadership skills, build relationships and facilitate dialogues to become change agents and what we affectionately call "troublemakers of the best kind," to make St. Louis and the greater community more socially just and inclusive.

Why Cultural Leadership?

Although progress has been made on the inequalities in our society related to racism and discrimination, there continues to be disparities in education, healthcare, economic development and the criminal justice system.  Historic housing and social patterns in St. Louis have created few opportunities for students of different races to interact.  Where opportunities do exist, self-segregation often occurs.

According to a report entitled Racial Equality in the St. Louis Region: A Call To Action, St. Louis is one of the most racially segregated, most racially polarized metropolitian areas in the country with too many people suffering the inherent consequences.

Clearly, there is a need for enlightened future leaders who recognize and understand these disparities and inquities and who can take action agains social injustice to benefit all aspects of our society.

This is why Cultural Leadership is so important!

Join our cause, run with us in a race to end racism!
