We are participating in the 40 Hours for the Family House again this year in honor of Dhillon. He and Deb (his mom) spent 11 months at the Gift of Life Family House as he awaited his call for a new heart. He received that much anticipated call on July 22, 2015. Sadly, he did not survive his transplant surgery. He was just 12.5 years old.
To honor his memory, family and friends are raising money for the Gift of Life House. It is indeed a special place, with guests, staff, and volunteers that come together to create a unique environment of support, fun, and love. We were so lucky we found the Gift of Life Family House and were able to enjoy the many benefits.
Dhillon thrived and grew while he was at the Family House, finding his niche that helped him cope with treatments, fear, pain, the anxiety of waiting for “The Call”, yearnings for home and separation from those he loved. He developed a wonderful team of supporters in the house and with family that lived in the area that could now see him more often. Dhillon was a special kid with a special heart, and the wonderful Family House saw those attributes and helped him shine: jokes, magic tricks, crafts, fund-raising, sports and musical events, in-house games, cooking in the kitchen, working the front desk, getting to know Philly sights and foods and so much more!
We are so grateful to the Family House and want to help them to provide a home away from home for transplant families. A $40 donation provides for a one night stay for a transplant family in need. Please give $40 or an amount greater than that if you are able.
A BIG thank you from: Deb, Vijay, and Serena Shah and our many family and friends in North Carolina and beyond.
