This week we are excited to introduce another Team Laura runner…meet Arden!!!
Enthusiastic & energetic are a few words to describe runner and entrepreneur Arden Tomosky! Arden loves spending time outdoors with her husband and son, and enjoys being of service and being involved in her community. She became involved with dance and gymnastics at a young age. After nearly 25 years of dancing, she found her love for Barre, and fused it with her love for the outdoors to create Infused Fitness. She hosts outdoor group fitness in the community, and teaches at equinox. With an inspiring story of a mother who lost 78 lbs. after her first child and kept if off since; it’s easy to see and feel her passion to help others achieve their fitness goals without compromising fun. Arden ran her first 5k last year followed by her first half marathon in January, she is aiming to PR in her second 5k with Team Laura! Arden will be running in memory of her late father Clifford, and late sister Reci Taylor, both lost to cancer.
Fun Fact: I'm obsessed with game nights!
Advice from our friend …Dr James Rouse!
Good morning awesome ones,
I know that this Friday is blessing you and your loved ones with abundant vitality, inspiring thoughts and a deep desire to crush it today!
I was reading some very interesting and sobering research on diet soda pop-specifically in how it linked to a myriad of health and wellness challenges including weight gain, calcium loss and neurological damage-the bottom line...drop the pop!
Many people drink pop to help with managing calories and supporting weight loss or weight management...well, it's not a good bet; research shows that drinking diet pop actually increases the risk of developing metabolic syndrome by 34%. Metabolic syndrome is a group of symptoms that includes extra weight around the mid section, elevated insulin levels and increased blood pressure-basically it creates the perfect storm for contracting diabetes and heart disease. As athletes, you are doing awesome things to support healthy bone density...drinking diet pop can leach bone building calcium from your body-2 cans a day can pull nearly 10 mg from your bones and body!
Patients of mine have said that they get headaches when they attempt to get off the pop-try adding 3 doses of 200 mg a day of magneium glycinate with meals and you will help your mind and body navigate the "detox" symptoms of coming off the poison.
Share this info with a friend and feel good for doing a wellness intervention that feeds your heart and soul...your vitality, power and beauty is contagious-spread it!
Peace and positivity, James
Short on time but want some kick-ass speed-work? Run a tabata routine.
If you don’t know already, Tabata is a four minute session. Each Tabata has 8 intervals of which you exercise at a very high intensity for 20 seconds. After 20 seconds, you have 10 seconds to rest. Tabata is a form of high intensity training and one of the benefits of high intensity training is that it can boost your metabolism and heart rate up in a matter of seconds. Long distance running requires anywhere from 10 minutes to 30 in order to get your heart rate up. Not only that but you have to maintain that heart rate for the rest of the run to get your body to burn fat.
On a tread mill set the incline at 8-10 then set the pace to 7.5-8.5. Run 20 seconds on and 10 seconds off. Prefer the outdoors? Then run fast pace for 20 seconds then 10 second rest. Repeat 8 times.
