HERE IS ELIZABETH'S STORY:
I am celebrating my one year anniversary of my cancer diagnosis by running the Columbus 1/2 Marathon (meant to do the full but can't do that just yet). I have a team joining me from around the country and we are energized!
Here is what happened over the last year:
On October 2, 2013, I was admitted to St. Luke's hospital and was ultimately diagnosed with Stage IV lung cancer after having 5 surgeries to stablize my condition. I was found to have a rare genetic mutation which qualified me for a leading edge drug therapy which has kept me alive beyond a typical lung cancer prognosis.
Over this past year, I have been introduced to a foundation that focuses its efforts on the growing cases of young non-smoking lung cancer patients like myself. The Bonnie J. Addario Lung Cancer Foundation seeks to educate the medical community on the importance of earlier detection/screening as well as genetic testing. Had early detection testing been in place for me, I may have been able to have the cancer surgically removed and become cancer free, thus I'm hoping you can help me support this organization by donating here!
