Ellie is now a 14 month old twin who came to the MSICU at Boston Childrens Hospital at the age of 3mos old in respiratory distress. She was diagnosed with pertussis and quickly decompensated into repiratory failure. She ended up mechanically ventilated and ultimately on Heart/Lung bypass. Ellie spent more than 1 month on ECMO/bypass in a critical state. In the 5th week she was able to successfully come off ECMO. A short time after she didn't even need a breathing tube, extubated from mechanical ventilation and transitioned to oxygen via a nasal cannula. She is now at home thriving and doing well catching up on her milestones with her twin sister and 2 older siblings (one brother and one sister).Ellie is one of our favorite success stories from this past year. We are a team of RNs, Respiratory Therapists, Doctors, CAs, Social Workers, Child Life Specialists and countless support staff. We help sick children and their families. The LighthHouse is our symbol. Please consider supporting my Boston Marathon run for Boston Childrens Hospital in honor of Ellie's, and her family's, grace and strength. Thank you in advance.
