Esther Grace Liu was diagnosed with "end-stage" pulmonary hypertension when she was two years old, after an acute cardiac event that she survived while her family was visiting The Netherlands. She was sustained by God's grace and several medications that are only available today because of the determined efforts of pioneer researchers like Dr. Robin Barst. Many people around the world have been praying for Esther and other children like her who suffer with this rare and devastating illness that causes them to faint, struggle to breathe, and experience life-threatening heart failure. Without medical therapy, most children do not live for more than two years. When medication fails, the only option is double lung transplantation, which only prolongs life for 5 years in 50% of cases. We are fundraising to increase awareness and to promote research that will help to find a cure for pulmonary hypertension.
