BENEFITING: Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary
ORGANIZER: Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary
EVENT: 2012 Boston Marathon
It was a hot one on April 16th! Thank you all so much for your support before, during, and after the marathon. My physical and virtual sections really pushed me all the way through those 26.2 miles!
My original message...
Dictionary.com defines a marathon as "any contest, event, or the like, of great, or greater than normal, length or duration or requiring exceptional endurance." Pretty spot on description that sort of makes me rethink this whole marathon idea (kidding)! Despite my wonderings of why I get myself into these types of situations (and willingly I might add), I am excited to be participating in the historic Boston Marathon and very grateful to be given this opportunity by my friends at the Mass Eye and Ear. It seems fitting that I would run this marathon for this organization as they provided and inspired a lot of firsts in my life, especially in regards to running. I was fortunate enough to coordinate the first Eye and Ear Marathon Team when I worked in my first "real world" job at the Mass Eye and Ear (God bless them for taking on a 22 year old fresh out of college and brand new to Boston). It was while working for this Team that I was inspired to start running and signed up for my first marathon (New York). I loved the experience and went back for more two years later. I am not a fast runner so qualifying for Boston was not an option for me but have been inspired by the event ever since I first worked with Team Eye and Ear 6 years ago. When I got the crazy idea that I should try running the Boston Marathon, I could not think of a better way to give back to the organization that started it all for me in Boston both professionally and running-wise.
I also know of the great resources, passion, and love that Mass Eye and Ear has towards its research and patients. They give people the opportunity to live their life to the fullest and give hope for a better future. I am honored to support their efforts. By supporting me you will have the opportuntiy to support Mass Eye and Ear and I thank you for that.
