BENEFITING: Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary
ORGANIZER: Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary
EVENT: 2012 Boston Marathon
I've been a resident of New England for the better part of my life - and Massachusetts Eye and Ear has always been a feature in my Boston landscape. Now, as a full-time employee of Mass. Eye and Ear, I am excited to train and participate in the 116th Boston Marathon in honor of my colleagues. Running 26.2 miles on behalf of MEE provides me with a unique opportunity to support the institution and ultimately our patients, and I'm eager to use my fundraising abilities while fulfilling the personal challenge of completing my first marathon.
Founded in 1824, Mass. Eye and Ear is an international leader in ophthalmological and otolaryngological research but its strength is in its people. It is the welcome from Livingston and Donna in the lobby and the helpful receptionists on the clinical floors. There are our gifted physicians like Dr. Joseph Rizzo who takes extra time to listen and council patients with optic nerve disease, and surgeons like Dr. Tessa Hadlock who literally engineers smiles for people with facial paralysis. There are our nurses who both organize wards and care for our visitors like Kendra Polefka who manages our 6th floor ORs and Child Life Specialist Ashley Cross who cares for children - and their families - with airway disorders. This is the tip of the iceberg. Leaders, administrators, and all of our colleagues who care for the building each brings unique gifts to ensure a positive environment and of course, successful clinical outcomes and breakthrough research.
I hope you will consider sponsoring my run. $10, $25, $100, or $1,000 makes a huge impact on our mission to improve the quality of life for so many people. I’ll also hope to see you come Patriots Day helping to power me from Hopkinton all the way to Boylston Street. I’ll need all the support you can muster. Thanks to you all!

At Mass. Eye and Ear, our focus is your quality of life. We treat everything that has to do with the eyes, ears, nose, throat, head and neck - so that you and those you care about can get more out of the world around us.
Our physicians are more than just specialists; each is also a researcher and a teacher. These doctors don't just apply the latest advances in medicine; they invent them. Together with Mass. Eye and Ear scientists, they work tirelessly to understand the root causes of diseases that both take people's lives and rob too many others of their quality of life.
Every dollar raised makes it possible for Mass. Eye and Ear to excel in clinical care, research and medical education. That, in turn, allows us to provide the finest specialty care to every person who comes through our door and to share our knowledge in order to help patients around the world.
Thank you for your support.
