EVENT: 2013 Boston Marathon
EVENT DATE: Apr 15, 2013
I have been given the amazing opportunity to follow one of my life long dreams and run in the 2013 Boston Marathon. I will be running as part of Team Mass Eye and Ear and raising money to support Operation Airway. As many of you know, I am currently employed at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary as a nurse in the Pediatric Otolaryngology Dept. I started running track in high school, but long distance running has become a passion of mine. I have completed 5 half marathons since 2009, 4 of which I have completed since 2011. I reached my goal of finishing a half marathon in under 2hrs during the B.A.A. Half Marathon in October 2011 and twice since that time. Now I have decided to tackle a larger goal and complete not only a full marathon, but the Boston Marathon!
Operation Airway is an important cause to me because I have the ability to work directly with the Pediatric Airway team at MEEI weekly. In the Pediatric Airway, Swallowing and Voice Clinic, we see children with congenital and acquired airway disorders such as laryngeal clefts, subglottic stenosis, and vocal cord paralysis. Many of the children we see are unable to breathe or speak without the use of tracheotomies. As a nurse on this team, I am able to help coordinate the care of these unique patients and improve their lives. Operation Airway is a great program set up through MEEI and MGH to help the children of Ecuador receive these services. Not only are the children cared for, but our physicians help teach the doctors and medical staff in Ecuador. My goal is to raise a minimum of $5,000 to help improve the lives of these special children.
I would truly appreciate any small sum as a donation towards this incredible cause. Please consider making a donation!
